simon johnson =what kind of art would you like to make using games=

games offer a place where normal social rules either dont apply or become redundant. this applies not only to console games but to any game that enacts human behavior. this means that games offer a space in which new behaviours can emerge.id like to make games that opperated in this zone. whee emergant behaviors arise and react back not just on the game world but also on the social.

=what kind of art would mix well with game cultures game tech=

i like big games myself games that dont involve sitting at a screen or a console and i want to provoke people or provide experiences so im more interested in using these technologies to do this than in integrating any particular art form

=what process would you follow in a potential project=

i think it would be nice to start off with a single stable technlogy and find ways to exploit its limitations and relative freedoms

=how does this differ from the way you normally work=

normally i work as a freelance and therefore produce work to a clients spec

=what would be the most important factor in such a work=

pushing the existing technology in such a way that something new was exposed

=how did you use the blue screen=

the two things i liked most about of the chromakey work were a scene where we integrated a set of performers into a scene with a set of avatars. the scene was remenicent of a battlefield with the dead left to be picked over by looters another was the insertion of a person on their knees into a first person shooter this turned the normal consequence free super violence into an execution scene

=from time in the workshop what do you think are the problems in tie based in-game performance=

the problem here seems two fold 1) performative skills strong enough to ad lib a character in this environment 2) the tech ability to implement this augmented reality. this implementation needs to involve both the ability to situate a char in a space and the ability for the performer to interact with the virtual space
